The World, 07.03.08: The police in Rio de Janeiro don’t exactly have a stellar reputation. Over the past decade, they’ve been linked to drug-trafficking gangs and militias. They’ve been accused of summary executions. And they’re widely seen as corrupt. There have been numerous efforts to reform Rio’s police forces, but to little effect. The latest is an effort to re-educate the police.
